Peninsula Pathology Network has gone live in using a secure private cloud environment as part of its Digital Pathology programme.
The organisation, which provides a network for imaging services at four NHS trusts in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, began to use the private cloud in February in a partnership with Exponential-e.
This follows an agreement on a four-year contract, procured through a framework agreement, in February of last year.
The cloud solution is supporting the integration of data across five sites in the region. Exponential-e said it has been tailored to meet specific requirements and will simplify the process of obtaining second opinions, support specialist referrals and establish a foundation for the integration of AI into pathology services.
David Gibbs, pathology network director at Peninsula Pathology Network, said: "Our vision is to deliver the most effective model of pathology for the South West Peninsula, ensuring clinical pathways that are reliant on these services are as efficient and impactful as possible.
“Centralising our storage environment enables us to maximise resources and focus them where they are needed most, as well as allowing us to enhance the productivity of our laboratories.”
