Professor Paul Boyle has taken over as chair of the UK’s technology body for higher and further education Jisc.
He is also vice chancellor of Swansea University, has been a Jisc trustee since January and has been chief executive of the Economic and Social Research Council, international champion of Research Councils UK and president of Science Europe. He takes over from Professor David Maguire.
Boyle said: “The digital platforms that underpin our educational and research needs have never been more important, and the opportunity for Jisc to build upon its longstanding reputation is clear.
“The breadth of expertise at Jisc is impressive, including the provision of cloud services, cyber security protection, student analytics, championing open access and much more.
“I am looking forward to seeing how the vision for Jisc will be shaped, as the reality of more blended virtual learning and research environments will become the new norm.”
In October of last year the not-for-profit organisation launched a three-year strategy to support further education with an emphasis on a new ‘digital elevation’ model to support education providers in reviewing their digital status.
