HM Passport Office has signed Sopra Steria to develop a new digital service for securely validating and digitising passport applications.
The consultancy and digital services company has been awarded a five-year contract for scanning, validation and storage (SVS) services as part of the agency’s digital transformation programme.
It will be delivered with its partner, storage and information management services company Iron Mountain, with the pair set to operate two service centres at Corby and Hemel Hempstead from October.
It will involve the scanning and validation of application and supporting evidence for uploading onto a digital platform on which they will be processed.
HM Passport Office routinely processes over six million applications per year and has been in partnership with Sopra Steria for 11 years.
Streamlining service
The company’s managing director public sector Adrian Fieldhouse said: “This builds on a long standing partnership between Sopra Steria and HM Passport Office and will help streamline the service for six million people, in the UK and overseas, who apply for a passport every year.
“SVS is the next step in the digital transformation process for HM Passport Office and will help to deliver more modern and efficient public services underpinned by a fully digitalised system.”
