The OneLondon group of integrated care systems has launched a digital process for the assessment and treatment of people detained under the Mental Health Act.
Named the One London eMHA programme, it is replacing paper based processes with a digital solution that joins up admission, treatment, hospital and discharge care pathways.
It will initially be used by five NHS mental health trusts in London – East London, North East London, Oxleas, South London and Maudsley, and South West London and St George’s - plus the North London Mental Health Partnership, which consists of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.
The process will involve the use of Thalamos software, which will work within the participating trusts’ electronic patient record (EPR) and electronic prescription management administration systems.
Signatures and secure sharing
Staff will complete the MHS documents within their existing EPR systems and can add their electronic signatures. Documents are securely shared between organisations and electronic notifications are sent to alert teams of individual members of staff of actions they need to take.
Staff will also be able to see relevant mental healthcare documents via the London Care Record, regardless of which trust created them.

“The new digital tool will support safer, faster and more joined up care for patients in the capital. It will also save our hard working health and care professionals valuable time. I have no doubt that this important programme that will make a positive difference on mental health care across the capital.”
The programme has been supported with around £5 million of NHS England Frontline Digitisation funding.
