Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has confirmed it has begun to use a new data centre built on a containerised architecture.
It took delivery of the centre in May after it was constructed and fitted out off-site by Secure I.T. Environments over a 90-day period using its ModCel architecture.
The company has also been awarded a five-year maintenance contract.
The new data centre comprises two units each measuring 10 x 3.1 metres with the capacity for 14 server cabinets on delivery and more if needed in the future, using the ModCel design principles.
It includes downflow precision air conditioning in 2N redundancy configuration, modular UPS and electrical infrastructure in 2N configuration, NOVEC 1230 fire detection and gas extraction systems. It has been fitted with 19-inch server/communications cabinets, a raised access floor, intelligent power distribution units, CCTV, access control and has a structural four-hour fire rating throughout, including fire doors.
It was craned into its final position, the units joined together, and tests conducted to ensure its overall structural integrity, following which the switch over of services was closely managed to ensure the minimum level of downtime
Chris Wellfair, projects director at Secure I.T. Environments, said: “We were able to design and build this data centre with no visits prior to installation. But you can only do that with a strong and close client relationship, our partnership with NNUH was critical to making this project a success, especially given the restrictions in place during that point in the Covid-19 pandemic.”
