Northumberland County Council has appointed Commsworld to provide internet connectivity for schools in the county.
The telcommunications network provider has been signed to supply a universal internet service for 110 primary and secondary schools, with connections of up to 1Gbps, supported by security and safeguarding support.
This will replace an ageing infrastructure and beef up capabilities that are in short supply for the county’s rural primaries, at what the company described as “affordable cost” that schools could not procure independently.
Cllr Richard Wearmouth, Northumberland’s deputy leader and portfolio holder for corporate services said: “This is a pivotal moment for education in Northumberland. Soon our schools will be able to access the best connectivity to deliver far better digital education through a wide range of devices – bringing them up to date with the latest technologies.
“I look forward to seeing the benefits of this new service over the coming years which will help provide the best learning experience, and security, for our young people and school staff alike.”
