Northern Ireland's Department of Justice, Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunal Service (NICTS) has appointed systems integrator CGI as the delivery partner for its major digital transformation programme.

CGI will play a leading delivery role in Themis, which the Department of Justice, Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service calls its flagship business transformation programme.

Themis aims to change court processes across tribunals, civil, family and criminal areas with a digital operating model that provides increased transparency, faster case delivery and increased accessibility using virtual services.

"The Themis Programme is our cornerstone for wholescale transformation," said Karen Ward, chief modernisation officer at NICTS. "This project will enable us to deliver improved services and enhance how we operate, with a new IT solution incrementally replacing legacy systems.

"The far reaching changes will benefit not only staff and the judiciary, but also the public, legal profession, NICTS Departments, and other justice partners, offering them direct online access to better designed services that meet their needs."

CGI has been awarded a 20-year contract valued at £85 million. The Belfast operation of CGI will lead the programme. In a statement, CGI said it will be working closely with the existing Themis team as it implements a five-year roadmap for the transformation.
