Northern Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has launched a real time air quality app.
It said it can provide tailored information on the air quality for the surrounding area – determined by the local authority boundaries – along with push notifications when levels of elevated pollutants are detected or in an air quality forecast.
Features include a colour coded map with air pollution forecasts and approved health advice based on the air pollution forecasts.
Localised info
Environment Minister Edwin Poots said: “Interest in the quality of the air we breathe has grown massively over recent years, and this new app allows people with underlying health issues such as heart and lung conditions or asthma to get more localised information when they need it.
“If you’ve any breathing difficulties, this app provides free critical information allowing you to take necessary preventative measures to avoid air pollution and protect your health when at home or on-the-go.”
The app has been made available free of charge through the Android and iOS stores.
Its release coincides with the publication of the Air Pollution in Northern Ireland 2018 Report by the DAER, which includes a section on the app development.
