Driver & Vehicle Agency plans to complete roll out for category B tests by end of year
Northern Ireland’s Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) is equipping its driving test examiners with tablet computers to record the results of driving tests.
It plans to issue the first tablets to examiners at Newtownards Test Centre next week for use in category B tests for driving cars as a replacement for the current paper based process.
This will be followed by a phased roll out to all driving examiners, with the aim of the tablets being used in all test centres for category B tests by the end of this year.
Candidates who provide an email address can have the test results emailed to them after the test. Their results will also be sent automatically to the DVA Driving Licence system and if they have passed the test a licence will be issued automatically, if appropriate.
DVA said there will be no change to the driving test itself or to the assessment, only to the method of capturing the information during the test.
