Northern Ireland’s Department of Health (DoH) has launched a campaign for the public to use a range of apps providing support for mental health.

It said the Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing campaign is being run in collaboration with Digital Health and Care NI and includes a selection of curated apps on the HSC Apps Library that provide self-help information and advice.

They include information on topics such as anxiety, depression, stress, sleep and meditation.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt said: “This is an example of the use of digital innovation to provide timely and targeted mental health support.

“It recognises that digital technologies offer an alternative way of providing mental health support by offering increased choice, availability and access, alongside traditional mental health service delivery.

“Moving from an analogue to a digital health and social care system is one of the major shifts in healthcare delivery that will produce better outcomes for all.”

Strategy commitment

The campaign reflects an element of the Mental Health Strategy 2021-2031, published in June 2021, which commits to develop and implement a comprehensive digital mental health model.

A mobile apps library was commissioned in May 2020 to provide self-care and self-management support to people in Northern Ireland in response to Covid-19 and its impact to normal healthcare service delivery.
