North Somerset Council has launched a mobile app, emphasising how it can help residents to recycle more of the waste.
Its features include bin day reminders, real time service alerts on waste collections, and a search tool to check how to recycle specific items correctly.
The app – developed by Cloud 9 Technologies – also has links to find local councillors, locate nearby council run facilities, view local food hygiene ratings and read council news.
The council said that other services will be added in the future.
Cllr Annemieke Waite, North Somerset’s executive member for climate, waste and sustainability, said: “We want to make North Somerset a thriving and sustainable place to live, work and visit. Our new app is a big step forward in supporting our residents to recycle as much as they can and waste less.
“A similar version of the app is already used by many other councils with thousands of residents downloading their local version and using it every week.
“When we roll out the changes to recycling and waste services this June, the app will provide an easy way to track collection day changes.”
