North of Tyne Combined Authority (NCTA) has funded a two-year pilot using the globalbridge platform to help young people find their first job and training opportunities.
It said it will make the platform available in secondary schools, sixth forms and colleges to help connect young people with potential employers, apprenticeship providers and universities.
It enables them create a virtual CV or portfolio and enables them to communicate with organisations that can offer opportunities.
Councillor Karen Kilgour, cabinet member for education, inclusion and skills at NTCA, said: “This is an important part of our ambition to secure good jobs with fail living wages for young people and everyone in the region.
“We are investing in our young people. We want to help them make the best decisions for their futures and get the skills they need to thrive in work. This platform will ensure that apprenticeships are easy to access for all you people right across the region, in Newcastle, Northumberland and North Tyneside.”
NTCA emphasised the presence of large employers such as GlaxSmithKline, Siemens and Sage in the region, and said that with this project will be supporting over 300,000 students nationally.
