North Ayrshire Council has published a new digital strategy, highlighting the creation of a new online account for its residents.

The strategy is underpinned by eight themes now common in such documents – digital first, technology enabled, secure by design, data driven, digital partnerships, sustainable future, a single view of customers and collaboration – and a series of priority actions for the next year.

They include: a review of the council’s online services to identify opportunities for improvement; and investigation of the opportunities for robotic process automation; cyber training for staff; setting up an internal digital innovation hub; and capitalising on 4G and 5G connectivity initiatives within communities.

The new customer account, named MyNAC, uses Scotland’s national MyAccount service for signing in. It brings council tax, housing and payments information into one place and enables residents to find information, make payments and track progress on service requests such as applying for council tax discounts and applying for free school meals and clothing grants.

Easier for residents

Cllr Christina Larsen, cabinet member for finance and procurement, said: “We recognise that our digital services are key to supporting the shift to online transactions the new MyNAC account helps make things easier for our residents.

“We understand that we must continue to adapt to the changing needs of our residents, businesses, and our workforce, and the new MyNAC account will really be a game changer for residents who prefer to interact with us online.

“However, we know that there are many residents prefer in-person or over-the-phone contact. These interactions are still very much available – we know that finding this balance is key.”
