Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUH) NHS Foundation Trust is planning to digitise its paper healthcare records with the aim of becoming ‘paper lite’ by 2023.
It has signed business processing outsourcing company Swiss Post Solutions (SPS) to deliver a digital transformation solution to support the plan. The company has in turn selected the MediViewer electronic document management (EDM) platform from IMMJ Systems to provide digitised clinical content and full electronic patient records.
SPS said the trust believes the solution will support increased collaboration across sites, improve access to clinical data and deliver savings of £2.5 million per year.
The system has an offline working function, real time dynamic indexing, high speed document searching and text filtering functions with the HTML based client app.
Anthony Lundrigan, chief information officer of NNUH, said: “A huge amount of time and resource is diverted into manually managing and moving patients’ notes to different locations. We therefore need to find a solution to help us reduce paper processes and become more operationally efficient.
“This is a first and significant step in delivering our five-year digital strategy for the trust and is part of a wider digital strategy for Norfolk and Waveney Sustainable Transformation Partnership.”
NNUH is a 1,200-bed teaching hospital with 10,000 staff and a wide geographic coverage. The deal for the EDM platform is one of a series of significant technology investments.
