Northern Ireland’s Covid-19 vaccine certification app has been hit by early problems causing a temporary withdrawal of the service.

COVIDCertNI, which was launched at the beginning of this week, has been subject to what the Department of Health (DoH) referred to as “issues”, and which has been reported in The Belfast Telegraph as a data breach in which some users received the personal information of others.

It added that DoH officials said the service would be temporarily disrupted and that the Information Commissioner’s Office has been informed.

The DoH has also issued a statement saying the service for confirming that people had been vaccinated could be used from today for those travelling on 1 August but, in the first instance, not beyond.

Some applications will be processed manually and applicants will be contacted via email on what to do.

UKAuthority has contacted the DoH for further information.

UPDATE

On 31 July the DoH stated the app was once again operational, but that applications were being restricted by date to allow it to prioritise the people with the greatest need.
