NHSX has set up a new team to improve data collaboration in the health service.
Chief executive Matthew Gould has announced the move, saying the Centre for Improving Data Collaboration is aimed at helping NHS leaders deal with commercial negotiations and regulatory processes in working with partners on patient data.
The team is led by Catherine Pollard, who has been director of the Centre of Expertise within NHSX since April and formerly director of digital and innovation at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust and executive programme director at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough STP.
Gould commented: “Created to build better data partnerships between the NHS and industry, the Centre will help you enter into fairer and more beneficial data partnerships with industry through hands-on support and advice.”
He said it wants to learn from NHS trusts that have already developed good data partnerships in order to share best practice and encourage peer-to-peer support, and would provide direct advice on commercial, legal and intellectual property issues. The latter could involve brining in independent negotiators and lawyers as required.
Gould said the centre is now up and running and has called for NHS organisations to get in touch if they have entered or are considering taking part in a data partnership.
It is also working with bodies that aggregate data such as NHS Digital, Genomics England and the health and data research hubs.
