NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership has set up a series of contracts for the procurement of systems to support the development of an All Wales Patient Reported Outcome Measures Solution (PROMS).
The partnership, which is hosted by Velindre University NHS Trust, has published a contract award notice setting its value at £11.8 million over three years.
Named suppliers are Aire Logic, My Clinical Outcomes, Promptly Health, The Clinician and NEC Software Solutions.
PROMS measures a patient’s health status or health treated quality of life at a point in time and are collected through self-completed questionnaire or a set of questionnaires. It is part of the value based healthcare agenda on which each health board and trust in Wales are working, supported by the Welsh Value in Health Centre (WViHC).
Variations in maturity
There is a national requirement to deliver a consistent PROMS service, but at the moment health boards and trusts are at different levels of maturity in collecting the informatin, the notice says.
“Value in healthcare is realised when we achieve the best possible healthcare outcomes for our population with the resources that we have,” it adds. "These outcomes should be comparable with the best in the world, and Prudent Healthcare has already provided a strong foundation for healthcare improvement in Wales.
“Changes in health are important milestones in the lives of patients and we should use Patient Reported Outcome Measures to measure them.”
