The team building the temporary NHS Nightingale Hospital in London have installed the supporting IT system in less than a week.
It has been a significant element in the construction of the hospital at the ExCel centre - which could take up to 4,000 beds - for the treatment of coronavirus patients, making use of the Cerner Millenium electronic health record (EHR) platform already in use at Barts Health NHS, under which Nightingale will operate.
Cerner said the technology will be used as an extension of the system used across the five existing hospitals within Barts Health and will enable healthcare staff to access and record relevant information.
It added that the hospital will be able to share information with Barts and local primary and community care providers through its Health Information Exchange, and with other London acute trusts through the OneLondon Local Health and Care Record Exemplar.
The EHR is also linked to other clinical systems such as radiology and pathology.
Distie Profit, managing director of Cerner UK, said: “Working closely together, NHS and Cerner teams have managed to get this new facility created within the system in just a matter of days. This goes a long way to show the great things we are all able to achieve when we work together towards a single goal, and for the benefit of millions.”
Construction of the hospital has been overseen by a team from the Army.
