NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is planning a major expansion of its virtual wards with the aim of providing the equivalent of 1,000 hospital beds.
It has entered a partnership with virtual care specialist Doccla to integrate the company’s remote monitoring technology into its care pathways to equip clinicians with real time data and support the recovery of patients in their own homes.
This is expected to equip clinicians with real time data, reduce the strain on hospitals and support NHS workforce sustainability.
Jane Gardner, CEO of NHSGGC, said: “We are excited to work together to establish the first 1,000 virtual bed hospital embedded within our planned Flow Navigation Centre +Plus (its virtual service for emergency care) and reshape health across the Greater Glasgow and Clyde system.
“This partnership with Doccla is an important step forward. It will allow us to deliver the right care in the right place for our patients, helping us to transform and develop our NHS now and into the future.”
Major milestone
Dag Larsson, CEO of Doccla, commented: “Our partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde marks a major milestone in the evolution of virtual care. Together, we are laying the foundation for the hospital of the future—digitally enabled, patient focused, and built around delivering care where it’s needed most.”
NHSGGC is the largest health board in Scotland, serving over 1.2 million people.
