NHS England has signed IT infrastructure and services provider Softcat on a new contract as cloud services delivery partner.
The award notice indicates that the agreement, which came into effect last month, is to run for three years with options for a further two and is valued at up to £440 million.
It will involve the provision of cloud services across multiple platforms.
The new contract builds on an existing relationship between NHS England and Softcat, with the former having highlighted the company’s role in providing a FinOps (financial operations in cloud spending) capability with the health service’s Cloud Centre of Excellence – initially set up under NHS Digital before it was absorbed into NHS England.
Softcat has direct relationships with AWS and Microsoft Azure and has said its FinOps has provided the visibility and data to simplify the financial management and streamline cloud operations.
