NHS England has revealed further details of building the capability to redevelop the NHS Spine.

It has published a contract award notice for an £18 million agreement, set to run until September 2025, with business technology consultancy BJSS for relevant DevOps services.

The deal was originally struck with NHS Digital to begin in September of last year, but the notice has only now been published following the organisation’s incorporation in the Transformation Directorate of NHS England.

It covers the running, maintenance and development of the Spine core platform, which provides an infrastructure for communications and data sharing between IT systems in the sector and joins together over 23,000 IT systems in 20,500 organisations.

Support and building

The notice indicates that BJSS will be responsible for the support of ongoing live services, building services and building, enhancing and maintaining data assets, migrating data between systems and analysis from the assets.

Publication of the contract award comes soon after another for Aire Logic to develop the new Spine platform as part of the Spine Futures programme.

Earlier this year the project team within NHS England called for input from IT professionals in health and social care.
