NHS England has become the latest organisation to report a data breach from the cyber incident affecting software company Capita.
It has issued a statement saying it has reported the breach to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), after the company informed it that a document containing “limited” optometry information for two patients had been access.
Capita has notified the two people and offered support, and told NHS England that two files with names and NHS numbers of deceases and deregistered patients had been accessed. The files identified archived records relating to people who had died or not been registered with a GP for 10 years or more.
NHS England said no health or other patient data had been accessed as a result of the incident.
No further evidence
It added that an independent cyber security expert appointed by Capita has not found any evidence that the information was made available more widely.
This follows increasing concerns over the effects of a cyber incident at Capita, news of which first emerged in early April, and a data breach through benefits and revenue software that has affected a number of local authorities.
Last month the ICO flagged up its concerns, urging organisations to report any data breaches that could be related to the Capita incident.
