NHS England has outlined plans for a number of services to be launched this year running on the Federated Data Platform (FDP).

Its monthly bulletin on the FDP – which makes it possible to connect operational data from a wide range of sources in England’s healthcare system – says this reflects the ‘NHS FDP First’ policy under which trusts and organisations are urged to connect their data and digital infrastructures to the platform.

It highlights the launch of the Cancer 360 service, which brings together data from disparate health systems about patients on a cancer diagnosis pathway. This “transforms cancer diagnostic pathway management with a single automatically updated patient tracking list, with active pathway management, escalation mechanisms and data driven performance insights.”

Waiting list status

The bulletin points to three other products using the FDP set for launch this year, including Patient Led Validation that will give patients direct control over confirming their waiting list status.

The Diagnostic Imaging Scheduler will be used to optimise scheduling, with the aim of boosting productivity and reducing wait times for patients. Finally, the Timely Care Hub will provide a centralised, real time view of ward and site activities to support better informed decisions in coordinating care.

NHS England has also indicated that 96 trusts are now signed up to use the FDP, and that among the benefits identified so far has been an average 11% reduction in waiting lists.

It has previously set a timeframe, dating from August of last year, of two years for all trusts and integrated care boards to begin using the platform.
