NHS England has awarded Palantir Technologies a one-year contract to help it move away from its Palantir Foundry to a new federated data platform.
It will be spending just short of £25 million with the company up to June of next year “to provide a smooth transition and exit service of critical products,” according the contract award notice.
This follows last year’s announcement of plans to develop a new federated data platform for data sharing around the health service.
The notice says the new contract will support the safe transition and exit from the incumbent supplier to the new FDP-AS supplier when it is awarded and established.
Software and analytics
Palantir Foundry software has been used by the NHS to connect back office software systems and analytics teams with frontline care providers.
It has provided the basis of the Covid-19 Data Store, which was initially delivered by the company on a trial basis during the pandemic. This was made more long term under a two-year deal in late 2020, and this was extended until June 2023.
According to analyst TechMarket View the business has so far been worth around £50 million to the company.
The new contract is likely to feed speculation that Palantir will become the supplier of the new platform.
