NHS Digital has begun to operate the new version of the Peering Exchange service for the Health and Social Care Network (HSCN).

The exchange, which supports the interconnection of multiple supplier networks for users to communicate, has been delivered by managed service provider Redcentric, which also did so for the original version under a contract agreed in 2017.

The company said the platform provides a key component of the HSCN infrastructure, allowing service providers and healthcare professionals to access and securely share data on a range of systems.

The new version of the Peering Exchange was developed over 12 months and provides 20 consumer network service providers with interconnections to the HSCN.

Patrick Clark, director of infrastructure at NHS Digital, said, ā€œIā€™m delighted to confirm the successful implementation of the replacement HSCN Peering Exchange service, which has occurred without impacting service to HSCN users. Well done to the Redcentric and NHS Digital teams and thank you to the HSCN consumer network service providers that have contributed to the success of the project.ā€
