NHS Digital is making plans for a platform to help business intelligence and risk teams in the health service to better understand cyber security operations.
It has said it wants to help them make decisions based on consistently presented data rather than intuition.
The technology services provider for England’s NHS has set up a cyber BI&R function within its Data Security Centre, and has now launched a procurement for support in the beta phase of creating a platform.
It expects the work to take up to a year and has set a budget of between £1 million and £1.5 million.
The procurement notice says the BI&R function provides intelligence led improvements in security and a view of system risk across the NHS. But there is a problem with healthcare organisations running on disparate data sources with different business intelligence requirements, and cyber related information such as firewall logs, policy exceptions and asset registers is not organised or presented in a consistent way. This makes it difficult for their security teams to contribute to BI.
It adds that the platform should enable BI&R teams to articulate security risks and their possible impacts, help them in the definition and delivery of budgets related to cyber security.
NHS Digital has already run discovery and analysis phases and is due to complete the alpha phase next month. While it has been working with a strategic supplier on the project, the market notice says none of the supplier’s team will remain in place for the beta phase.
