Runnymede signs Capita One
Runnymede Borough Council has selected Capita One’s Digital Enterprise platform to support its digital interactions with customers. It will link the customer relationship management system and customer portal in the platform with the council’s back office systems.
The company said the implementation will make it possible to take more services online and support the council’s customer service advisers, and is expected to generate savings of £264,000 over three years.
West Yorkshire upgrades CCTV at bus stations
West Yorkshire Combined Authority has said it is working with BT to upgrade CCTV coverage at 25 of its bus stations and install public Wi-Fi at eight.
Under a £1.2 million scheme, it has been connecting around 260 Bosch HD cameras connected to a high speed CCTV fibre network to replace analogue cameras. The programme will also involve improvements to the authority’s CCTV monitoring centre in Leeds.
Councillor Keith Wakefield, chair of the authority’s transport committee, said it will provide savings of five-figure sums each year and pay for itself in four.
Civica launches cloud optimisation service
Civica has unveiled a cloud optimisation service to provide organisations with a holistic view of their public cloud environments. It said this will enable them to improve governance, manage the relevant spend, reduce risk and increase the value they get from the cloud.
It combines reporting on infrastructure-as-a-service environments – which draws on real time data feeds from public cloud providers such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services – with analysis and consultancy from Civica specialists.
The company said that Buckinghamshire County Council has recently selected the new service to monitor its expenditure.
Government takes on more cyber security apprentices
The Government Security Professions Unit has completed the 2017 recruitment cycle for the Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 Apprenticeship Scheme, taking on 26 apprentices in 10 departments. This brings the total number of cyber security apprentices in the scheme to 50.
It said they will be working across a number of fields, including incident management, phishing and threat intelligence, and risk assessment. Classroom training includes modules on networking principles, cryptography and encryption, and malware analysis.
