Edinburgh turns to Telensa for smart street lights
City of Edinburgh Council has begun to use Telensa smart streetlight controls as it deploys 64,000 LED lights as part of its energy efficiency programme.
The company was selected by the city’s digital transformation leader CGI Group in an LED replacement contract run by Amey. The deployment is expected to be complete by the end of 2020.
It is making use of the Telensa PLANet wireless central management system, which consists of wireless nodes connecting individual lights, dedicated wireless connectivity and a central management application. It identifies and tracks faults, measures energy consumption and submits information directly to the meter administrator.
Courts roll out new digital solution
The Legal Aid Agency has announced that all Crown Court sites are to be equipped with a new Digital Case System multi-handler solution by early September.
This will give defence, prosecution or court users the ability to upload a classified document within case files to a restricted section of the system, enabling them to choose who sees a document. For example, the defence could choose to upload a client application and make it available to another defence team. Permissions can be amended at any time.
The agency has also pointed to guidance on GOV.UK for using the system. Local courts will confirm specific implementation dates.
Perth & Kinross Council looks for smart energy system
Perth & Kinross Council is to invest up to £150,000 in a series of studies to develop a smart energy network for its estate. It is launching a competition for ideas that include the generation and storage of renewal energy and the trading of any excess.
The council said proposed solutions must include the development of an energy management platform, along with control of all the network’s generation and storage. It will be taking entries from 20 August until 10 October.
