Courts see rise in online traffic offence pleas
HM Courts & Tribunals Service has reported a significant rise in the number of online pleas regarding traffic offences, following the completion of the national roll out of the service earlier in the year.
It said in a blogpost that as of 17 August magistrates’ courts had handled 52,500 online pleas, with a forecast of 84,000 by the end of the year. This compared with 58,981 in 2016 and 11,898 in 2015.
The service is one of a number being developed under the Criminal Justice System Common Platform Programme.
East Northants makes Jadu switch
East Northamptonshire Council is planning a move to use the Jadu Continuum CXM cloud solution for managing customer interactions. The system is scheduled to go live in October for the missed bin collection service, followed by bulky waste collection and green waste services.
It is already Jadu’s Continuum CMS publishing tool and Continuum XFP e-forms solution.
Specialist ICT projects and programmes service transformation consultancy Entec Si is leading the council’s ICT transformation programme, which includes the implementation of a replacement customer self-service portal and the addition of Paybridge, a national provider of integrated payroll services.
Charity Commission calls for public to join digital tests
The Charity Commission has put out a public call for people to help test its digital services to make them easier to use.
The agency said it plans to host several sessions around the country over the coming months, in which it wants to test services with real users to understand what they need. It has made an online form available for anyone who wants to take part.
MoD plans demonstrator for Single Intelligence Environment
The Ministry of Defence is planning to run a demonstrator project in March of next year as the basis for the future procurement of its Single Intelligence Environment (SIE).
It is planning for a project with a handful of users, comprising intelligence analysts and decision-makers, but using principles that could be scaled up into the thousands over the long term.
The SIE is an element of the Defence Information Strategy which makes it possible for staff from different sections of the MoD and the military to share intelligence observations, including those on people and facilities.
Guy Goodwin to chair UK Data Forum
The chief executive of the National Centre for Social Research, Guy Goodwin, has been announced as the new chair of the UK Data Forum. He takes over from Professor Tim Holt, who is stepping down after four years in the role.
The forum is a joint initiative by the UK Statistics Authority and Economic and Social Research Council to identify national and international data resources to meet the future needs of economic and social researchers.
Goodwin said: "We want to inspire and enable a new generation of researchers to improve our lives by making the best and safest use of the vast amounts of data available to them as well as new and exciting data sets, such as big data. The UK Data Forum can help ensure we benefit fully from the opportunities offered by technology and the data revolution."
