North Hertfordshire gets Public Protection
North Hertfordshire District Council has signed software development firm Tascomi to provide its Public Protection solution to support its agile working.
The software manages premises, assessments, service requests, accidents and other functions. It has been designed in conjunction with local authorities to meet the changing needs of operations in trading standards, environmental health, licensing, private sector housing and housing grants.
Andy Goodman, head of housing and public protection at North Hertfordshire, said: “The integrated offline capability means that officers will be able to record inspection outcomes directly into the system even when they do not have access to the internet. The customer facing portal allowing citizens and business to submit and track licence applications online is going to enable us to digitally transform our service.”
ONS recruits data analytics apprentices
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has begun recruiting the UK’s first data analytics apprentices.
It said it is looking for people with relevant A levels or equivalent experience and that the scheme will lead to an accredited level 4 diploma. There are six places on the scheme, which will be based at the ONS’s data science campus in Newport.
ONS deputy national statistician for data capability Heather Savory said: “ONS is looking for the best people to take full advantage of cutting edge tools and technologies and to help ONS make the most of the data revolution.”
2T Security wins cyber certification
The Government’s information security body CESG has announced that 2T Security has been awarded the certification for cyber security consultancy.
It said the company is the latest to be certified to meet the growing demand from government and industry customers for access to trusted cyber security advisors, and can provide the relevant service for security architecture and risk management.
Nottingham signs for superfast broadband
Nottingham City Council has signed a multi-million pound, 20-year concession agreement with ITS Technology Group for the telecommunications ducting in the city to be used to connect local businesses with superfast broadband.
The company will extend the reach of the fibre network up to 100km at no cost to the council, operating the network on an open access basis. This will enable any other operator to use the fibre to connect to their customers at a commercial rate.
Nottingham has also installed 17km of underground telecommunications infrastructure in the transit lines for the city’s tram service.
SEACamb goes live with Evolve
South East Coast Ambulance Service (SEACamb) has gone live with the Kainos Evolve solution to enable clinicians to capture electronic patient clinical record data at the scene of an incident and share it with hospital A&E departments, clinics and wards. The solution runs on an iPad, online and offline.
Mark Chivers, head of IT for SEACamb, said: “This is an important project: not only does it improve patient care and quality and efficiency, but it takes us forward on our mission to be digitally mature.”
