NHS Business Services Authority plans big tech spend
The agency that provides central services for NHS organisations is planning to set up an intelligent client coordinator (ICC) to manage a £248 million contract for technology and infrastructure services to support its supply chain future operating model.
It has launched a procurement covering three areas – transition services, business as usual services and transformation services – and aims to develop a new integration platform, new order management systems and to replace its warehouse management. It said it expects the dialogue to be concentrated on transformation services.
The new contract is scheduled to begin when the existing one expires in September 2018.
Food Standards Agency builds register for regulation
The Food Standards Agency is planning to create a single register of food business operators in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as part of a new regulatory model for food safety.
It has launched a procurement, valued at up to £2 million, for support with its Regulating our Future programme, which involves making use of all the available data to regulate safety along the food chain. Building the register will be one of the first steps, and involves developing a risk model and identifying the data needed to segment businesses, along with determining the best way to capture data.
Welsh Government to spend £5 million on schools’ broadband
The Welsh Government has made £5 million available to support its plans for broadband connections in schools.
It has a policy of primary schools having a bandwidth of 10Mbps and secondary schools having 100Mbps, but said some have not been able to upgrade the speed of their services because of technical limitations. The improvements are expected to begin in 2017-18 academic year.
