DCMS announces new Cyber Innovation Centre
A new London Cyber Innovation Centre is to be set up in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to bolster the country’s cyber security effort and promote the growth of companies working in the sector.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport announced the plan, saying it involves a £13.5 million investment and predicting it could create 2,000 jobs in cyber security. The centre will provide a place for start-ups to work with large firms in identifying cyber security challenges critical to their businesses.
Disclosure Scotland extends BT deal
Disclosure Scotland – the country’s criminal record checks body – has extended its contract with BT to run a managed IT service and provide related print, scanning and mailroom services.
The deal has been made under the extreme urgency provision of an earlier contract in 2015 and will cover the transition from the old IT system to a new one, planned for September of this year. It has been valued at almost £10.2 million.
NHS trusts spend over £1 million on GDPR
Research by the Parliament Street think tank has revealed that 46 NHS trusts have spent just over £1 million on plans to comply with the General Data Protection Regulation, which is due to come into force next month.
The biggest spend was Luton and Dunstable Hospital Foundation Trust with £111,2000 targeted at staff support and training. Other big spenders included Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust with £106,915, and South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust and St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with £95,000 each. Others spent as little as £500.
Greenwich points to Smart Parking as supplier
The Royal Borough of Greenwich has selected Smart Parking as its preferred supplier for parking technology. The company is planning to install its SmartPark system, including sensors and SmartSpot gates, to feed information to its SmartCloud platform and dashboard. This will integrate with the borough’s Urban Sharing Platform.
The move is part of Greenwich’s Sharing Cities and Low Emission Neighbourhood initiative, and will be focused partly on reducing the parking pressure around the National Maritime Museum and local university. One of the priorities will be monitor the length of stays in the coach bays around the town centre.
