Brendan Clarke-Smith MP has been made the new minister with responsibility for government digital in Prime Minister Liz Truss’s reshuffle.
The public notice on his role as parliamentary secretary in the Cabinet Office states that his responsibilities include digital and data, along with science technology and innovation.
This will include oversight of the Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) and Government Digital Service (GDS), taking over from Heather Wheeler MP, who was in the role for just seven months.
Clarke-Smith, who entered Parliament at the last general election, was previously minister for children and families in the Department for Education – a role he held for just two months before the change at the top of government last week. Before becoming an MP he was a teacher and there is no public indication of him having any background in the digital sector.
