HM Land Registry and Ordnance Survey have launched a new Geovation Challenge, designed to encourage geotech and proptech start-ups that use location and property data.
They have opened the application process for the Accelerator Programme, based at the Geovation Hub in London, with the offer of six-month, £10,000 grants for successful ideas with the possibility of winning a further £10,000.
It is the latest stage in a programme that begun in 2015 and has taken 84 start-ups. Land Registry said this has created more than 200 jobs and raised £23.3 million in investment funding.
Programme members are given access to technical expertise, Ordnance Survey and HM Land Registry data, and open data sources. They also receive one-to-one sessions and workshops covering finance, fundraising, business planning, legal and intellectual property, company law and coaching on presentations and pitching.
Alex Wrottesley, head of Geovation, said: “We want to hear from any new start-ups, entrepreneurs and developers looking to solve customer problems with location data, or creating new digital solutions in the land and property sector.
“Geovation offers a unique combination of funding, expertise, relationships and resources and the teams on our programme find themselves at the heart of our vibrant geotech and proptech community.”
Land Registry and Ordnance Survey – the national mapping agency – joined forces in 2017 in a strategic partnership to encourage businesses to develop ideas with the data they hold.
