Organisation’s director of government innovation calls for feedback on draft version
Innovation charity Nesta has begun work on a comprehensive guide to digital government with a draft of nine messages it believes can help public authorities’ leadership teams understand the priorities.
Eddie Copeland (pictured), the organisation’s director of government innovation, has published a draft overview and invited feedback for a final version.
He highlighted his view that public authorities are prone to take the label ‘digital’ too literally and think about the technology first, rather than the ways of working they wish to enable.
Among the key points is that the level of transformation that digital technologies can enable is down to how much of the process or way of working is open to change, and that organisations cannot expect agile projects to succeed if they insist on keeping older forms of project management, governance, budgeting and procurement.
Copeland also says that public sector technology teams should concentrate on being smart customers and set clear standards for the tech they will buy or develop.
