The National Cyber Security Centre has published a set of practical tips cards on cyber security in online working for schools.
It said the move has come in response to an audit, published last September, that highlighted shortcomings in schools’ approaches to cyber security.
The need for support in home working has been further fuelled by the coronavirus pandemic.
Among the tips are the creation of strong passwords, the need to be on the look out for phishing emails and a careful use of USBs and pen drives.
They also make the point that people are still responsible for keeping information safe when working at home, and highlights the importance of steps such as keeping anti-virus software up-to-date, ensuring all devices have passcodes, and switching on two-factor authentication for sensitive accounts.
NCSC has produced the tips with NEN The Education Network and has so far sent out over 30,000 sets of the cards to schools across the UK.
It recently published cyber security guidance aimed at a wider audience on home working.
It added that it is planning produce a training package for school staff, along with guidance for governors and senior leaders on making sure cyber security is taken seriously.
