New president says top priority is promoting the role of women in IT
Nadira Hussain, One Oracle programme manager at oneSource, the shared service created by the London Boroughs of Newham and Havering, has been confirmed as the new president of public sector IT association Socitm.
She takes over from Nick Roberts, having been an active member of the organisation for several years. She has worked with the Members Services Group, national IT Profession Group and been vice-chair of the London Socitm region.
Hussein said her top priority is to advance the prospects of women in IT, ensuring their access to advancement and leadership roles.
"Socitm is a great platform for creating a network through which the interests and visibility of women can be advanced in both public and private sectors," she said. "I will be reaching out to a range of groups to explore what we can do to drive this forward. It is vital to the future of our profession and will benefit everyone."
She has been in local government since 1994 when she joined the London Borough of Redbridge as a policy development and research officer in social care. She then joined Tower Hamlets as head of customer services ICT, and for the past three years she has been on secondment, first as manager of the Athena pan-London shared services programme, and now in her current role with oneSource.
