Humberside Police has begun to pilot the use of portal through which victims of crime can track the progress of their case.

Named My Police Portal, it enables users to find details of an investigation after they have reported the crime through the force’s call centre or online.

It also enables them to interact with officers in charge of the cases through securely sending messages.

The service requires a valid mobile number and email address can be used by anyone aged over 16 who has reported burglary, criminal damage, assault, blackmail, harassment, malicious communications, public order offences, robbery, theft, threats to life or wildlife crime.

Anyone meeting the criteria who reports a crime will then receive a text message and email inviting them to sign up.

Transforming communication

Assistant Chief Officer Chris Philpott of Humberside Police said: “The commitment and victim focused approach our control room staff bring to work every day means any victim of crime calling us will have someone ready to answer their call who will provide them with the help they need, making our force control room one of the best in country.

“The launch of My Police Portal has been a fantastic opportunity to further transform the way we communicate with members of our community enhancing the fantastic services our control room staff are able to deliver alongside our officers and continue to improve the way we police.

“The project is still in its infancy as we look to expand upon the different types of crime residents are able to track through the portal after they initially report an incident to us however I have no doubt that it will have a huge impact.”
