The Money and Pensions Service (MPS) has extended the role of Capgemini in the development of the Pensions Dashboard.
It has added a year to the contract awarded in September 2021 for central digital architecture and services, taking it to September 2028 and adding £15 million to bring its total value to £72 million.
The award notice says this will involve new statements of work to ensure the delivery of key components to the central digital architecture to enable pension providers and schemes to meet their statutory obligations.
It states that Capgemini is the only provider that can undertake the addition work due to the technical reasons that would create excessive inconvenience in finding an alternative.
Interoperability issues
“This is due to technical reasons due to the requirements of interoperability with the existing ecosystem equipment and installations,” the notice says.
The Pensions Dashboard Programme, led by the Money and Pensions Service, is aimed at providing a framework for dashboards to give people easy access to information about their various pensions. Its first connections were originally planned for August 2023, but in March of that year it was reset due to complexities in connecting a range of IT systems.
In May of last year the National Audit Office published a report identifying a series of problems that have led to delays in the programme.
