The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has signed Serco to provide services for the electronic monitoring of offenders.
They have agreed on a contract to begin in May 2024 and run for an initial six years with a value of around £200 million, and options for two further one-year terms that could take the value to £275 million.
The transition to the now contract will begin this month with most of the costs being charged as they are incurred to profit.
Serco said it will introduce a new data led, technology based approach to services for the MoJ, and will be responsible for administrative, contact centre and field services in the installation and removal of electronic monitoring devices. This will include being a service integrator for the devices and supporting technology, which will be delivered by a separate provider.
It added that this will make use of its existing knowledge and capabilities in supporting the MoJ, and the new contract will involve an extension of its support with high quality data capture.
