The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has said that all of its offices have now had their IT network connections restored following several days of disruption.

This follows its acknowledgement that it had been hit by network problems that had deprived a large number of sites of access.

The ministry reiterated its earlier claims that it had not been the target of a cyber attack, the issues were unrelated to its courts modernisation programme and there had been no loss of data. But it is apparently unsure of the causes.

“Together with our suppliers Atos and Microsoft, we are continuing to work hard to identify the root cause of the issues,” it said. “The MoJ permanent secretary, Sir Richard Heaton, met with the chief executive of Atos UK & Ireland to express his disappointment and to agree how we learn from what went wrong and make changes.”

While the connections have been restored, the disruption has created a backlog of work and it will take time for all aspects of the service to return to normal.

The ministry added that an unrelated issue affecting some users of the Criminal Justice Secure eMail system has also been resolved.
