The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is planning to build a pan-defence e-learning environment under a two-year, £1.8 million contract with CGI.

The deal for e-learning application support and development will contribute to the MoD’s Defence Learning and Management Capability (DLMC) programme, and the company said it will work on the project with education and technology company LEO Learning.

They will develop a secure e-learning environment with applications built on technologies such as Moodle, Mahara, Alfresco and Learning Locker, hosted on the MoDCloud Internet Connected Environment on an AWS platform.

The contract also includes providing guidance on how the defence sector can meet business needs through using learning applications and technologies.

24/7 service

Neil Timms, senior vice president for CGI’s UK and Australia space, defence and intelligence operations, said: “We are proud to support the MoD’s vital virtual learning environments that provide education and information 24/7 to all MoD service and civilian personnel based around the globe.

“CGI will, alongside LEO Learning, ensure our armed forces personnel benefit from access to best practice learning technologies supporting the MoD’s continued digitisation.”
