The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed Kainos Software as enablement partner for the further development of its Defence Data Analytics Platform (DDAP).
They have agreed on a three-year contract, which began earlier this month, valued at £50 million. It was awarded through Crown Commercial Services’ Digital and IT Professional Services framework.
The DDAP is a common platform for defence organisations to access analytics, data science and AI capabilities, handling both core and non-core defence data.
It has evolved since it was launched as part of the MoD’s Data Strategy for Defence earlier this decade, providing a service for the Defence Artificial Intelligence centre and other bodies in the sector.
Continuous evolution
The award notice for the new contract says: “By continuously evolving the platform, we ensure that DDAP remains at the forefront of data and AI innovation, maximizing the value extracted from data assets.
“This approach has led to substantial uptake from the user community with recent adoption by major programmes and operational use highlighting the ability of DDAP to deliver high value outcomes effectively.”
It adds that the further development of the platform will align with the data fabric for the strategy.
Kainos won a significant role in the defence sector in 2021 with a contract with the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory for advanced rapid AI experimentation.
