The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed IT consultancy CGI to develop a digital platform as part of its Defence Learning Management Capability (DLMC) programme.
The award notice for the contract, which began in July and will run until the end of March next year, indicates a very wide range for the potential value, from £2.79 million to £50 million.
This comes from the MoD’s business case for the DLMC, approved in 2021, to develop a blueprint and roadmap for digital services to support its needs for governance, administration, delivery and reporting to improve its learning management.
CGI said the new platform will deliver outcomes such as the management of learning, competence tracking and certification for all Armed Forces personnel and MoD civil servants.
It will bring together existing systems to a single coherent capability for individual learning under the MoD’s people programme initiative.
Agile approach
The company plans to work with partners GP Strategies and Actica Consulting in an agile delivery approach to design and deliver the platform and associated applications.
The project will utilise user centred design and explore how technologies such as AI, machine learning and cloud computing can enhance the platform’s functionality and user experience.
Brigadier Stefan Crossfield, senior responsible owner and Army chief data officer at the MoD, said: “Using CGI’s expertise in complex environments, collaborating with the Defence Digital Foundry, we have taken an important step to deliver a game changing capability for defence.
“With laser focus on defence’s data, we will provide a blueprint for the future, revolutionise current learning management delivery and adapt at the speed of relevance to meet the needs of defence in a fast changing world.”
Neil Timms, senior vice president, space, defence and intelligence at CGI in the UK and Australia, commented: “This new digital platform will enhance usability and future proof their learning management solutions.”
