Marine Management Organisation extends the capabilities of its online channel for marine policy documents
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has added new mapping information and a policy check tool to its Marine Information System (MIS) as part of an upgrade of the interactive reference system.
It has announced plans for a number of new functions for the website, which helps users understand proposals for marine policy documents and supports public authorities in their use of marine plans.
Prime features of the upgraded system include mapping information based on a multi-layer geographical information system, which makes it possible to focus searches of activities and resources on local areas. This includes a display of marine licensing data.
The policy check tool enables users to search for marine plan policies within a geographic area that they can define themselves.
Website display
In addition, the website layout has been changed to allow the display of all marine plans and adopted policies, and includes information on policy considerations during the decision-making process. It has also been made accessible via mobile phones and tablets.
The MMO said it is open to feedback on the system and suggestions for improvements.
The organisation is sponsored by the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and is the official body for licensing and planning marine activities around England and Wales. It also operates the Marine Planning Portal, which provides spatial data that is used in relevant evidence.
