Marine Management Organisation looks to develop new services to support compliance efforts
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is aiming to develop some new digital services to support fisheries controls.
It has indicated that that it has a number of projects in progress, completed the discovery stage for two and is now looking for a delivery partner to take them through alpha and beta.
Among the priorities is to support compliance with the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy, to which the UK industry will remain subject until at least 2020 under the terms of the Brexit transition deal.
MMO, which is one of the bodies under the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, said the new systems will have to be developed to help users in the fishing industry produce and maintain records for processes such as obtaining licences and keeping information on catches, landings and sales.
It will also have to support MMO staff and those of other agencies, such as the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science and the Association of Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities, in inspections and data reporting.
The programme is expected to run over two years, possibly extended by another six months.
