A team at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) – the second largest mental health trust in England – has won an award for its introduction of a low code mobile application for clinical observations.
It has been named Digital Project of the Year at the NDL Community Awards, staged by the company that collaborated in the development of the app.
Named eObs, the app provides a detailed overview of each patient’s observation requirements, guiding clinicians through the process and pulling patient information from MPFT’s RiO electronic patient records system and recording information into its own SQL database.
This is said to provide a faster, more dynamic observations process for clinicians and patients, and produce benefits include reduced administration overheads, consistent data records and better workflow visibility.
Following a pilot, eObs has been ruled out to 11 therapeutic wards and there are plans to extend it to the others under the trust.
Jack Gould, senior IM&T project manager at MPFT said: “eObs has been one of the trust’s key digital innovation projects over the last year and has brought a number of benefits with it.
“Developing and deploying the solution to wards during the Covid-19 pandemic posed additional challenges to the team, however by IM&T, clinical leads and NDL working closely together, the trust have been able to go live with the application across a number of its therapeutic wards.’’
