The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has opened an £800,000 funding round for local government digital projects focused on post-Covid 19 renewal.
Its Local Digital Collaboration Unit (LDCU) is running a competition, which will open to applications betweeen 1-15 July, for digital, data and technology initiatives aimed at dealing with challenges resulting from the coronavirus.
It has identified three themes – data and reporting, community engagement and developing new working practices – and said any proposals need to reflect the principles of the Local Digital Declaration and show they have a value for multiple councils.
They have to be submitted by a council or group of councils, and project teams will be expected to work with MHCLG staff and the private sector.
In recent weeks the LDCU has published research on councils’ responses to the pandemic and produced a coronavirus information checklist for their websites.
Over the past two years it has run a series of funding competitions for digital and data projects that can be re-used around local government.
