London’s Metropolitan Police Service is laying plans to consolidate the number of towers for its ICT procurements from six to two.

It is intending to bring together five of the existing towers with some additional services to make up the infrastructure services tower, taking in functions such as service management, cyber security, mobile voice and data and managed print.

The Met has published a procurement notice for the tower, effectively bringing the services into a single contract valued at up to £600 million over five years with options to extend for two further one-year periods.

Along with this it is retaining its applications tower, and has indicated a preference to have different suppliers for the two.

The move is part of the implementation of the Met Police’s Pegasus Programme, covering its deployment of data and digital technology.

It said the change of approach has come in response to the changes in the technology market, and the increase of its own experience in contract management and understanding of ICT systems and architecture. Part of the programme is to make more use of cloud services.

A series of its existing contracts are due to expire over the next two years.
