London service to use company’s Connect technology to pull together information strands for policing
The Metropolitan Police Service has signed Northgate Public Services as the technology supplier for its Met Integrated Policing Solution (MiPS).
The company has announced that it will provide its Connect technology for information sharing and management, aimed at strengthening the Met’s real time intelligence capability for officers on the beat.
It will handle information for strands of policing activity across London, including intelligence, investigations, custody and prosecution.
The procurement has taken two years, with the Mayor of London’s Office for Policing and Crime having launched the tender for MiPS in April 2016. It indicated the need for an integrated software package that would pull together various elements of its information systems, in what amounts to one of the largest IT procurements in UK policing.
It also said that it could involve a commercial off-the-shelf system.
Among the features it listed in the primary scope of services were third line support for call handling and management, data migration from existing systems, development of application programme interfaces, and a mobility option
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Duncan Ball, the Met’s project lead for MiPS, said: “I am very pleased a contract has been signed with Northgate Public Services to deliver an integrated IT system for the Met. The technology will transform and improve the way information is shared and managed and greatly support investigations and our work in keeping the public safe and bringing offenders to justice.”
